December 21, 2008 Weather: Wind After the Snow

After a couple of days of snow in Jersey City (and Hudson County), be ready for the cold winds tonight. Although it is cloudy as of writing, with temperature in the mid-30's, weather will change drastically as the sun sets.

Weather forecast says that we are going to experience gust of winds between 20mph - 30mph, and temperature will decrease to 15 degrees Fahrenheit.

A wind advisory has been issued by the National Weather Service for tonight until tomorrow (Monday, December 22, 2008):

WEST WINDS WILL INCREASE IN THE WAKE OF INTENSIFYING LOW PRESSURE TRACKING NORTHEAST THROUGH THE NEW ENGLAND COASTAL WATERS LATE TODAY AND TONIGHT. WEST WINDS 25 TO 35 MPH WITH GUSTS AS HIGH AS 50 MPH ARE POSSIBLE THIS EVENING INTO TONIGHT.

PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS...

A WIND ADVISORY IS ISSUED WHEN SUSTAINED WINDS OF 31 TO 39 MPH... OR GUSTS OF 46 TO 57 MPH... ARE EXPECTED OR OCCURRING. WINDS THIS STRONG CAN MAKE DRIVING DIFFICULT... ESPECIALLY FOR HIGH PROFILE VEHICLES. USE EXTRA CAUTION.

RESIDENTS ARE ALSO URGED TO TIE DOWN LOOSE OBJECTS SUCH AS GARBAGE CANS AND HOLIDAY DECORATIONS THAT MAY BE BLOWN AWAY BY WIND.
