December 18, 2008 Weather: Calm and Dry Before the Storm

Today, the weather is calm and dry in Jersey City: temperature is in the high 30's to low 40's. This morning, it was sunny and partly cloudy -- and it looks like the rest of the day will be gorgeous.

You have to enjoy the weather today because tomorrow (Friday, December 19, 2008), there will be a winter storm. As a matter of fact, a "Severe Weather Alert" has been issued already as early as 5AM today.

THE NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE IN UPTON HAS ISSUED A WINTER STORM WATCH... WHICH IS IN EFFECT FROM FRIDAY MORNING THROUGH FRIDAY EVENING.

SNOW IS EXPECTED TO OVERSPREAD THE REGION FRIDAY MORNING... AND COULD BECOME HEAVY AT TIMES IN THE AFTERNOON. THE SNOW MAY MIX WITH SLEET AND RAIN IN THE AFTERNOON... ESPECIALLY ALONG THE SOUTH SHORE OF LONG ISLAND. THERE IS THE POTENTIAL FOR SNOWFALL ACCUMULATIONS OF 6 OR MORE INCHES.

A WINTER STORM WATCH MEANS THERE IS A POTENTIAL FOR SIGNIFICANT SNOW... SLEET... OR ICE ACCUMULATIONS THAT MAY IMPACT TRAVEL. CONTINUE TO MONITOR THE LATEST FORECASTS.
